Tips For Selecting Carpet | Dunwoody, Marietta GA

Carpet is one of the most important features of a home. It's one of few things that can enhance or detract from both the style and comfort of a home. It dampens sound, creates a soft surface and doesn't become cold to the touch like tile.

Choosing the right color and construction for your home's carpet should be determined by several factors. Intended room use and traffic flow are used to decide the type of carpet to use. For living spaces with lower traffic, like living rooms and bedrooms, plush pile carpets are a good choice. However, they tend to show vacuum tracks and footprints, which you don't want in a high traffic area. So, for hallways, entries and family rooms, a trackless cut pile carpet would be a better choice.

Even length, uncut loops are used to make Berber carpet. It is more expensive, but it all stand up to heavy use in places like family rooms. With the right color choice, Berber can fit in with many styles.

Carpet comes in a vast array of patterns and colors. Prints are a popular choice. Floral patterns on low-pile carpet work well in a european-style country home. Checkered carpet is great for play rooms or entertainment rooms. Patterns are created in single color carpet with cut-and-loop pile construction. Some manufacturers even mimic sisal rug patterns. There are patterns for virtually any room and style.

Be sure to take fabric samples from each room when you go carpet shopping. Use them to pick out several choices. Then take swatches home to see actually in the room. Look at them under different types and levels of light. The color may look a little different under sunlight than it does under compact fluorescent light.

Over 95 percent of carpet uses synthetic fibers in construction due to low cost and cleaning ease. The price of new carpet ranges greatly, though. Take your time, and make the right choice for each room.
